By a country mile, that was the best atmosphere I’ve heard at Anfield. I’ve been a Liverpool fan for 40 years and had a home-and-away season ticket for seven. We made it very difficult for Barcelona – you could see the fear in their faces. Only 2005 in Istanbul comes close.

I’d told my mates we’d get past Barcelona, although I did have some doubts last week. But directly before the game, the city was buzzing and the pubs were packed. Everyone was singing. ​

Normally, people don’t take their seats until five or ten minutes before kick-off, but we got into the ground half an hour before and there wasn’t a seat to spare. People talk about the 12th man getting behind their team, but until you go and experience it, you can’t quite understand. ​

And that was without two of our best players. That was refreshing for me. When Salah went off in the final in Kyiv last year, we died a bit as a team and it all went flat, but this game showed our spirit – we don’t give up. We’ve become a much better side. ​

Divock Origi’s contract is up soon, but as well as giving him a new deal, we should give him a statue. And look at the people Klopp has signed. Joël Matip is something else and Fabinho was fantastic, especially after his early booking. Klopp got his tactics spot-on. Give us two legs against any team and we’ll beat them. Just look at who we’ve beaten in the last two years.

The best point for me was the third goal – that meant we knew it was going to go to extra time at least. People were running up to stewards and hugging them, and all sides of the ground were singing. We could have played for a couple of hours and Barça were never going to score. Their fans have said it was intimidating for them – I love it when we make it tribal and uncomfortable for the other team.

When the full-time whistle went, no one left the ground for half an hour. The singing was amazing in the pubs afterwards, with one song about Firmino going on for more than 20 minutes. We went to bed at 4.30am, by which time we’d lost our voices. I woke up this morning and still couldn’t quite believe it. ​

We actually booked our flights for Madrid while we were in Kyiv for last year’s final. We were depressed after losing, so we picked up some cheap flights and got ourselves a place to stay. Now all we need is a ticket for the match!
